We are an intimate reading group created at first with privacy in mind, not simply out of elitism, but with purpose. Our syllabus is comprised of books and authors that themselves are controversial so for whom conversation concerning their work would naturally be divisive. In an effort to facilitate open conversation and candor in discussion, we are very particular about who we offer seats to.
Our meetings are facilitated by a master’s scholar of literature and cover authors and philosophers like Ottessa Moshfegh, Bret Easton Ellis, Baron Julius Evola, and others that may be triggering for sensitive readers. We do not read genre fiction, and will not consider your #BookTok favorites. Please visit our reading list to better understand what reading with us might look like.
Despite our facilitator’s credentials and our academic name, our reading group is a social group, with meetings, reading sessions, and parties that are more like literary salons than class room time. Meetings and parties are open only to members and guests of members, while reading sessions are open to the public.
Please consider our ethos and your limitations before applying.
“What, then, is truth? A mobile army of metaphors, metonyms, and anthropomorphisms—in short, a sum of human relations which have been enhanced, transposed, and embellished poetically and rhetorically.”
From Friedrich Nietzsche’s “On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense”
